A First!!

Well, this is a tough one. I jumped out there in an effort to bond with
my son. We, or should I say "I", shaved our heads! It was my son's
first haircut and, if you ask me, he looks like a mixture of Teddy Savalas
and Rocky...very tough, very rugged and certainly manly. It seems,
however, that mom doesn't see eye-to-eye with me on this one. She
stepped out of the house tonight and I made a command decision to give
my son a buzz. Even though I like his new look and am convinced he does
as well, I may have to chalk this one up as a mistake. My sweet wife
wants me to make sure you all know that she cried when she first saw
him. She says she was sad as this was a sentimental moment (I do need
to mention that I did make sure I saved the hair!). I think she was
just stunned by his chiseled jawline, broad shoulders and his new "look." Boy, I love being a DAD!!!!!

Happy Father's Day

As a young, inexperienced, barely surviving dad I appreciate more and more the role of a father in one's life! Stephanie and I are certainly lucky to have grown up with the dads that we have. Words such as wisdom, strength, patience, selflessness, kindness immediately come to mind in reflection of what they've taught us and, of course, what they mean to us. This short post is a tribute to our dads. We certainly wouldn't be the folks we are today without their example. We mean this, reader; we really do! We have some fantastic dads....

Turns out, their naturally fantastic granddads as well! See below...

End of the Spear

Many of you know the story. You know, or have at least heard, some of the details behind the death of five missionaries in the jungles of Ecuador. All this happened forty-plus years ago but their powerful story still makes a difference in so many lives. I'm no different.

I've recently reacquainted myself with the specifics of this legend. I read Elizabeth Elliot's "Beyond the Gates of Splendor" and Steve Saint's "End of the Spear" while also watching the documentary video of what life is now like for the Waodani people of Ecuador. Safe to say I've been hooked ever since. If you don't know this story, do yourself a favor and dive in. God began an amazing work out of the ashes of these martyred men. Thankfully, this story lives on and plays an incredible role today in the lives of so many believers. God continues to grow the "cloud of witnesses" for us to follow. Men and women have lived and continue to live extraordinary lives in His service. I am so grateful this is true.
